ALPINE SPACE Project recharge.green

The Alps have great potential for the use of renewable energy. Thereby they can make a valuable contribution to mitigating climate change. This, however, means increasing pressures on nature. What could be the impact of such changes on the habitats of animals and plants? How do they affect land use and soil quality? How much renewable energy can reasonably be used? The project recharge.green brings together 15 partners to develop strategies and tools for decision-making on such issues. The analysis and comparison of the costs and benefits of renewable energy, ecosystem services, and potential trade-offs is a key component in this process. The project will last from October 2012 to June 2015 and is co-financed by the European Fund for Regional Development in the Alpine Space Programme. The association Alpine Town of the Year has an observer status at the project. The international final conference is taking place in spring 2015 in Bad Reichenhall, Alpine Town of the year 2001.
During its incumbency each Alpine Town of the Year commits to
implement at least two sustainable projects complying with one or more
of the five Alpine Town objectives. This website provides information on
the projects carried out so far with in order to facilitate the
exchange of experiences.
How can climate neutrality in the Alps be achieved within the next 40
years? The Association has established in co-operation with twelve
partners an Alpine Space project. «Alpstar. Toward Carbon Neutral Alps –
Make best Practice Minimum Standard» will from 2011 to 2014 support the
collection and testing of climate protection measures and implement
them in the designated pilot regions. Information on the project’s
progress, events and publications is here available.
